Cornyn:GOP Must Return To Its Roots

The Denton Record-Chronicle has a great piece on a speech Senator Cornyn made during the Denton Lincoln-Reagan Dinner on Saturday night. Head over here to read the full article.

Cornyn Roundup

Senator Cornyn was in Lufkin yesterday where he met with former Rep. Charlie Wilson of Charlie Wilson's War fame. The Lufkin Daily News reports on the event. Here's a snippet:
Now, the Texas native is attempting to reciprocate that dedication by trying to improve conditions for veterans in his state. Cornyn visited the Charles Wilson VA Outpatient Clinic in Lufkin on Wednesday, taking a tour of the facilities, and then lending his ear to suggestions on how to improve this and other clinics throughout the state. "Our veterans, from those who served in World War II to those returning today from Iraq and Afghanistan, have made incredible sacrifices for our safety and freedoms. In turn, we have the moral duty to provide them with the best care and benefits possible," Cornyn said. "I came here to listen and see how I can help."

Serving on the Senate Armed Services, Judiciary and Budget committees, Cornyn has carved out a role as a significant voice on national issues and has been a champion of open government.
Houston Chronicle:
The incumbent junior senator from Texas has showed courage and reason in supporting President Bush's call for immigration reform that would meet U.S. labor needs and offer undocumented residents an avenue to legal status.
Austin American-Statesman Ft. Worth Star-Telegram
The U.S. Senate has few members who are as consistently dogged about open records and government transparency as John Cornyn

El Paso Times

The El Paso Times had this to say about Senator Cornyn:
On the Republican side, incumbent Sen. John Cornyn should be returned to office. He has experience and seniority on his side, and is a strong proponent of open government. Cornyn introduced the bipartisan OPEN Government Act of 2007 and although it didn't end up as strong as many would have liked, it was still a step forward. Cornyn has shown continuing concern for veterans and from his vantage point on the Senate Armed Services Committee he has worked for better treatment for veterans. He's also on the Senate Judiciary Committee and from there has fought to repair what he calls the "badly broken" immigration and border security system. Much more work is needed there. GOP Primary voters should give the nod to Sen. John Cornyn
